“Image and Abstraction” will be on exhibit at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum from Sept. 30-Nov. 1. It will showcase the work of painters Adele Wayman and Neil Jussila.
Jussila, a Montana native and non-subjective painter is a former Vietnam veteran and combat artist and has been featured in more than 82 national, juried exhibitions.
“I do what matters to me. It begins with a feeling that becomes a painting. What next happens is like finding something that evokes a vivid memory sensation – or leads one to new adventures, as when reading a story.
Patterns of nature are the primary themes of North Carolina resident Wayman’s work.
“Painting flowers, grasses and leaves as they emerge, become fully open and gracefully die has fascinated me throughout my art making life,” she says. “Both in watercolor and oil, as elaborate and complex compositions or as single elements in a larger light-filled space, I continue to paint the flowers and weeds in my garden and in the surrounding woods, also leaves and grasses in all the seasons.”
Both Jussila and Wayman have shared their passion and talents as art educators at the college level. Wayman is the Hege Professor of Art at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C. Jussila is on the faculty at Montana State University, Billings.
The Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There is a $2 suggested donation. The museum is at 78 E. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach.
